Well the answer to why not is simple. It is not a trivial task to take
all the internal rendering/interface code and switch it over to OpenGL.
Considering the timeframes and the fact that only Stuart and Allen do
all the coding, expecting OpenGL right out of the chute is kind of
unrealistic. But it is not unlikely that future revisions will add OpenGL.
Considering OpenGL is available by default in NT and there are a plethora
of new cheap 3D rendering cards for Windows/NT, there is certainly a lot
of driving force to go that route.
